Etymology[edit | edit source]

Clingmans Dome was named after the real-world mountain located in the Great Smokey Mountains in the U.S. Those living in Clingmans Dome are known as "Clingman Domeans," or "Domeans" for short.

History[edit | edit source]

Clingmans Dome was founded when the Appalachia & Aqua, Axehound Central, Tomorrow Lines, and Franklin Shoreline railroads formed into a confederation of nations after their old country, Kathia, fell into revolution. Local leaders came together to discuss their newfound freedom, deciding to give the railways a part of the government. Under the new government, Clingmans Dome expanded into other territories, using either peace or war to get their former neighbors to cave in. One such war was with the country of Hornsby, where Clingmans Dome lost 1.7 thousand troops.

Politics[edit | edit source]

Under a democratic confederation, Clingmans Dome allows those controlled a good amount of freedom. Every six months, the leaders of each state conduct a session to vote on the most important issues at the time, such as the military and public transport. These leaders are voted upon in each individual state, with those as young as 21 allowed to vote. Clingmans Dome is capitalistic using the Austrian model. Drugs are legal, with the Health & Safety Board checking to see if the item is classified as it says it it. Public Transport is seen under the Clingmans Dome Transportation Authority (CDTA), giving standards of safety and others.

Military[edit | edit source]

The military of Clingmans Dome is small, with most being transported by the rail system in place. Five divisions equipped with M14s, grenades, and Kevlar are stationed in important transport hubs ready to be hauled at a moments notice. Two armored train divisions are used for raids and support, using a 14"/50 caliber railway gun as the main gun. These trains are pulled by Erie L-1's, formerly used by the Franklin Shoreline.

Railroads[edit | edit source]

Clingmans Dome has a long history with railroads. The first railroad, the Hudson & West railway, was chartered in 1855. The H&W was made to deliver coal and iron from the mountains into the newly-built steel foundries of then the small town of Hudson.
